Cora Wins Sustainability Champion at National Awards
I’m finally home after an incredible trip to London for the National Women in Agriculture Awards — and I’m still feeling inspired by the experience.
To stand in a room filled with women championing one another, celebrating success, and driving positive change across the agricultural sector was something truly special. The atmosphere was one of encouragement, ambition, and genuine support, and it was a privilege to be part of it.
There was a huge sense of pride seeing so many talented Scottish women recognised on a national stage.
Receiving the Sustainability Champion award means more to me than I can fully put into words — particularly as a hill sheep farmer. Sustainability in farming is about far more than the products we produce. Farmers are resilient, adaptable, and deeply connected to the land we care for every single day. We are custodians of our landscapes and ecosystems, working alongside the wildlife and species that share our farms throughout the seasons.
For me, this recognition also represents the importance of telling the wider story of farming — one that highlights stewardship, responsibility, and the passion so many farming families pour into the countryside around them.
One of the most meaningful moments came when I arrived home and was able to show my three children what their mum had achieved. Being able to remind them that hard work, determination, and passion can open incredible doors made the whole experience even more special.
I also couldn’t write this without mentioning my Vice Chair and dear friend, Julie — the ultimate hype woman — who encouraged me to put myself forward in the first place.
This week reminded me of something incredibly important: when women genuinely support one another, amazing things happen.
