Agriculture has long been the backbone of rural Scotland. Today, women are playing an increasingly vital role in shaping its future. Yet many still face barriers to leadership, training and visibility.
Women in Agriculture Scotland exists to support, connect and champion the women working across the industry.
Become a member of Women in Agriculture Scotland and gain exclusive access to a growing network designed to support, inspire and develop women across Scottish agriculture. Meet Judith, our first member to the new website
I’m Judith Crawford and one of the newer members at Women in Agriculture Scotland. Having grown up on a farm in Northern Ireland (my father was first generation), I moved to Scotland to study medicine. After 14 years in hospital medicine, mostly in Oncology, I am now working in the third sector.
Currently I work with The Farming Community Network in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, raising awareness of cancer and cancer support in farming and rural communities across the North of Scotland. This summer I have been travelling as far north as Orkney but also visiting Caithness, Sutherland, Moray, Easter Ross as well as Tayside and Aberdeenshire closer to my home in Laurencekirk. I also attend events outside the North of Scotland as required.
In my role I attend agriculture events, visit groups and businesses, and write articles or publication. I also engage with those working in healthcare, giving a voice to members of our community who have shared their stories with us good and bad to help others.

Join our mentoring program
A free, supportive network helping women in agriculture grow, connect and realise their potential.
Led by Julie McLaren, the Women in Agriculture Mentoring Programme connects members with experienced mentors across farming, business and professional development. Backed by the Scottish Government it’s designed to build confidence, share knowledge and open up real opportunities across the sector.
